The First Foreign Zed Legionist Has Landed in Our Club

The first one is a : Datsun 260Z

Hi everyone I am Symon from Barcelona province in Spain. I am an Englishman that has been living here in Spain for some 16 years. My first Datsun experience was watching the 1970 RAC rally, a cold wet morning, a few uninteresting cars and then the wonderful sound, sideways more than straight. It lasted just for a few seconds but made up for wet feet and cold afterwards.

In my youth I raced Formula Ford, F3, long distance racing ( with a 917 and 935 Porsche ), rallying ( GP4 Ford Escort MK II, Audi Quattro ) and just one Rally Raid.
After a few years without car fun I started again by restoring and running as an everyday car for 9 years a 1952 MG TD with 172 BHP MGB power, but thing move on and I was looking for a fast 60's or 70's sportscar that was capable of trackdays, fast driving around country roads, would cruise happily on the motorway.

I had thought of 911S Porsche, De Tomaso Pantera, a GT40 Replica but a good friend told me of a Datsun 260Z that was for sale. I remembered the RAC Rally, the famous "Big Sam" race car and I went to look at the car. A few days later a deal was done, a 1964 Mini Cooper and some cash changed hands and I was a Datsun owner.
I realised how original and unmolested my car was, just 79,000 kms all the interior is near perfect, no rust or accident damage underneath, just a few problems from lack of use. Now, 3 years later the car has a 276 bhp 2.9 engine, fully sorted suspension and brakes. The car is wonderful, with just over 100.000 kms on the clock the car feels like a new car. I hope to be using the car for some competitions in the future like the Tour de France.

The second one is a : CSP311 Silvia

Whilst is was researching the 260Z on the internet I found the "Silvia Pages" that speak about a little known mid 1960´s coupe. I kept looking the information and the photos and I made up my mind that I would have to have one in the future. The only Silvia in Europe came up for sale in Sweden, a deal was made and the car came to Spain. The Silvia needed a full restoration, so far chassis and suspension, all bodywork (including 2 new handmade doors ) and paintwork has been done. I hope to have the car on the road for the autumn.

I was totally amazed the first time I saw a R32 GT-R Skyline, and even more amazed when I found out the car was owned by a good friend. At the time I had a Porsche Carrera 2, my friend joked about my car being "old fashioned rubbish" and handed me the keys. An hour session around the F1 circuit convinced me that my 911 was going to be sold and quickly.

The third one is a : Skyline R32 GT-R

Many years past and 2 1/2 years ago I was in Japan visiting a fellow CSP311 Silvia owner. At the end of his garage was a perfect original ( except for 17" Nismo wheels ) silver R32 GT-R with 74.000 kms, full Nissan service history. After a few glasses of Saki Hiro asked me if I would like to buy his GT-R as his son had borrowed the car a couple of times and he thought his son would have an accident in the car. I couldn't resist, now the car has been improved with "real" brakes, 560 bhp R34 GT-R engine, etc.
The car is such a pleasure, never gives any problems and goings like the wind.

The fourth one is a : 1979 Datsun 160J SSS

My other cars were recently joined by a 1979 Datsun 160J SSS, bought on E bay from England. The car will be restored and than I´ll let my wife use the car as her everyday transport.
