40th Anniversary
Edition #46 BRE 370Z
The relatively quiet years of the late sixties, leisurely turned into the seventies,
when the first 240Z with its beautiful sleek design and excellent performance appeared
on the North American car market.
Since its amazing value and easily accessibility for middle-class sports car lovers,
reservation lists filled quickly, and popularity rose into sky. Sales statistics for
almost every year beat the 50 thousand mark.
So was born the legend of Z, which is then steadily spreading and existing throughout
the last 40 years.
The first specimens were modified by those racing teams, where the previous knowledge,
experience, and success already existed with Datsuns (2000 Roadsters) (BRE - Brock Racing
Enterprise and BSR - Bob Sharp Racing Enterprise).
One of the most famous early pioneers were Peter Brock car designer (Racing Corvette
Stingray, Cobra Daytona Coupe, Triumph TR250K), racing driver (Le Mans race car Cooper,
Mark II, XI, Lotus, Cobra) and his BRE team who's hard work and successes firmly
established the engineering reputation of Z cars that dominated the North American
motor sport competitions for a long time.
While the first successes definitely connected to the small Datsun Roadsters, the
arriving 240Z made the final contribution what changed the landscape of the American
racetracks forever.
BRE designed and prepared Datsun cars, the 2000 Roaster, then the 240Z (with John Morton
at the wheels) won the National Championship ( SCCA-Sports Car Club of America) title for
two consecutive years - ahead of the long-established German and English champion teams
- and contributed with the first golden entries into the glorious chapters of Z Racing
History Book.
In recognition of BRE's multiple championships in Nissan products and the Zs first
championship, Nissan North America again teamed with Brock to create an updated rendition
of the famous BRE livery on a specially modified 2010 Nissan NISMO 370Z Coupe. The BRE
colors bearing Anniversary Edition 370Z was presented - along with large collection of
the famous BRE racecars - by Peter Brock and John Morton, at the Classic Motorsports
Mitty at Road Atlanta.
The BRE 370Z is not just a show car, it is built for the track. As is appropriate to
commemorate the championship car, it was built to current SCCA T2 racecar regulations
and will see track duty later this year. It will also be on display at multiple Z Club
events around the country, including ZCon 2010, the annual Z convention, from July 28
to August 1 in Nashville. (..hope to have some news about it:-)
