Japanese Performance Car of the year

The Nissan 350Z has added another award to its bulging trophy cabinet by picking up the gong for Japanese Performance Car of the Year for 2007, announced in the December issue (on sale now). Beating off competition from rivals including the Mazda RX-8, the Mistubishi Evo IX and the Subaru Impreza, the 350Z was praised for its "stunning looks, equipment levels and value for money."
Chris Rees, Editor of Japanese Performance Car described why the 350Z took the crown: "The Nissan 350Z sums up everything we like about Japanese performance cars. It's a real sports car: a flexible yet rev-happy 3.5-litre V6 engine, an incredibly grippy chassis that gets better the more you extend it, a chunky steering feel and a bristling engine note."

NISMO S-Tune 350Z on 2005 SEMA Auto Show

Unlike our other auto shows, the only way to experience the one million square feet of exhibits found in the Las Vegas Convention Center is to be an industry insider, as the SEMA show is not open to the general public. Like bees to honey, the SEMA Show attracts industry leaders, automotive insiders, factory reps, aftermarket deities, wholesale buyers, and auto scribes, all searching for new ways to pollenate their business.
Comfortable shoes are mandatory for surveying the 11 miles of aisles; displays are segmented into ten market-based sections, with a New Products Showcase that features more than 1,100 newly introduced parts, tools, and components.
NISMO, Nissan's performance division, took a 350Z and made it lighter and faster. The NISMO stainless-steel cat-back exhaust increased horsepower by six at the wheels, while reducing weight by nine pounds-and at the track, every pound counts. The suspension was modified with a 36mm front anti-roll bar, 22mm rear anti-roll bar, and NISMO S-tune spring and shock kit. This red-hot Z rides on 18-inch NISMO wheels, 8.5 inches wide in front and 9.5 inches wide in back, with BFGoodrich KD tires.

2006 Nissan 350Z Debuts at Annual Z Club Gathering; "Mr. K," Father Z to Appear

SYRACUSE, N.Y.--Aug. 16, 2005
The new 2006 350Z sports car, which features the Z(R)'s first comprehensive updating since its introduction in the United States market in August 2002, made its public debut August 15 - 19, 2005 at the 18th International Z Car Convention in Syracuse, New York. More than 500 Z(R) owners were expected to attend the event with their vehicles.
Other long waited momnet of the show is the appearance by Yutaka Katayama, the 95-year-old "father of the Z(R)" who is making his annual appearance at the event.
Katayama, who is known by Z(R) enthusiasts as "Mr. K," served as the first president of Nissan Motor Corporation in U.S.A. and was a driving force in bringing the original 1970 Datsun 240Z to the United States.
Though retired for many decades, Katayama still keeps an office at Nissan's Motorsports organization, NISMO, in Japan and still drives a 350Z.

Among the other revisions for 2006 are a new Grand Touring Coupe model, featuring the 18-inch front/19-inch rear wheels, Brembo(R) brakes, front and rear spoiler and Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) has been added to the model lineup, and all 6-speed manual transmission models now receive the 300-horsepower(a) tuning of the Z(R)'s standard 3.5-liter DOHC V6. Also new for 2006 is vehicle speed sensitive power steering. Models equipped with the 5-speed automatic transmission are rated at 287 horsepower.

For 2006, the 350Z is again available in Coupe and Roadster body styles and in an array of models - five for the Coupe and three for the Roadster. Other enhancements include standard 18-inch cast aluminum-alloy wheels (except Coupe Track and Grand Touring models), standard bi-xenon (low and high beam) headlights, added mp3 CD capability for the available Bose(R) audio system and three new exterior paint colors.

An exhaust installation, that allows the TÜV admission delivers the corresponding sound. The Nissan holds the contact with the street over ultra-easy magnesium rims in the 18 customs format with tires of the dimension 265/35. Rear the rims heavy only 7,6 kilos hides the brake installation, whose shiny solid saddles gleam through the spokes, for itself Six brake pistons at the front axis and four counterparts at the rear axis bite relative 342 millimeters diameter into two-piece disks with 370 millimeters itself.

The sport undercarriage is adjustable in train and printed step and can through the driver in few "clicks" from the way - into a Racetrack-Set-Up is changed. A rollbar provides the security in the inside, at the one six point girdle and the Hans helmet system can be fortified. The pilot and passenger are thought of Recaro-Sport in position. Strosek looked after the optics and the aerodynamics of the 350Z-R. The tuner gives the Japanese a frontal bumper apron with adjustable splinter and a triply adjustable coal fiber stern wing. Streamlined outside mirrors refine the Sport-Look. Prices for the Strosek 350 Z-R are not certain yet at present.

Special Nissan 350Z S-tune GT at Goodwood

Nissan was showing its performance side at the 2006 Goodwood Festival of Speed (24-26 June) with cars you can buy and some you can't.
Nissan Motorsport International -NISMO- specially developed a version of the 350Z to celebrate their win in the Japanese 2005 GT500 Touring Car Championship. It's called the NISMO 350Z S-tune GT and is a road-going version of the race car. 20 are hand-built every month in Japan and the car driving at Goodwood, specially imported by Nissan Motor (GB) Ltd, is believed to be the only one in the UK. The S-tune has extended front and rear bumpers, side-sills and a rear wing modelled on the GT car. As if that wasn't enough, NISMO five
-spoke 19" wheels, racing stripes and pearlescent white paint will ensure this Nissan gets noticed in the Brooklands paddock.

Under the bonnet, NISMO has extensively modified Nissan's VQ35 engine to give 300PS and a maximum rev limit of 7200rpm. The exhaust and cooling system has also been uprated, the clutch reinforced and NISMO's G-ATTACK S-tune suspension system installed. The interior hasn't been neglected, either. Lightweight, Alcantara upholstered racing seats will keep the drivers securely planted during the Supercar run.
The NISMO 350Z S-tune GT, worth around L50,000, although Nissan doesn't officially import the S-tune into the UK.

Nissan 350Z Roadster: Cabriolet of the Year 2005

Customer deliveries have not yet begun, but Nissan's 350Z Roadster has already won its first European accolade. It has been awarded the honour of "Cabriolet of the Year" at the Geneva Motor Show.

The jury of international automotive journalists voted unanimously for the 350Z Roadster in recognition of its performance and design. Since 1994, the "Cabriolet Committee" has awarded this high honour at the opening of the Geneva Motor Show and it traditionally heralds the start of the season for the purchase of convertible cars as winter disappears and spring arrives.

The honour of "Cabriolet of the Year" is the 42nd accolade to have been given to the 350Z internationally. Of those, 12 have been awarded in Europe and 19 in the United States.

The President of the Geneva Motor Show, Claude Sage, presented the honour to Tsunehiro Kunimoto, Project Design Director, Nissan Design, on Wednesday 2 March on the Nissan stand.

He said: "It is a great honour to receive this wonderful award at the Geneva Motor Show. The first customers will soon take delivery of the 350Z Roadster in Europe and we are very optimistic that it will prove to be as popular and successful as it has been in the US and Japan."

The first deliveries of the Roadster will begin to customers later this month across Europe. The 350Z Roadster is a two-seater convertible, powered by the same 3.5-litre V6 VQ engine that is found in the Coupe. It produces 280PS of power and 363Nm of torque and powers the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. The electric folding soft-top mechanism either lowers or raises the roof in 20 seconds.

Nissan 350Z 35th anniversary

The 35-year anniversary limited edition 350Z GT4 takes its inspiration from the famous video game and a mere 700 units will be sold across Europe, with 176 allocated for the UK . To celebrate the Z's 35th birthday, Nissan decided to fit it with a 300 brake horsepower motor. The most advanced version to date of Nissan's coupe will be remembered for its engine, which was engineered by the Nissan Motorsport's Nismo division, and a few aesthetic details. One could assume that with just an additional 20 horsepower, the 350Z has changed character, but nothing could be further from the truth!

Secret Z or Nismo 350Z "S-Tune GT"

The headline reads "Nissan's secret Z", but faithful readers of TOTALCAR and Z CLUB sites know that we blew the covers off this car in May. We first got wind of this special sports car after a colleague from Japan sent us a couple of blurry photos of it in a studio.
