The new 370Z Roadster is a sporting convertible where is no sacrifice. |
|
Creating a really good convertible is tricky business, especially when
the coupe or sedan is based on such a strong, well-liked car. Simply
lobbing the roof off causes a whole host of rigidity and stiffness
problems -not to mention design dilemmas - and if these issues aren't properly
addressed, the new-found droptop might just be a big mess.

2009 Nissan 370Z,
once again offers exceptional value |
|
The new Fairlady Z's enhanced performance characteristics are a result of
its shorter wheelbase, reduced weight and the adoption of the larger, more
powerful VQ37VHR 3.7-liter V6 engine. It also offers the world's first 6-speed
manual transmission with synchronized rev control or a newly developed 7-speed
automatic transmission with a manual shift mode. The combination of more horsepower,
new transmissions and a refined suspension helps the Fairlady Z deliver the superior
acceleration, cornering and stopping capabilities expected of a true world-class

Nissan
unveiled details on its upcoming 350Z-replacement - more details |
|
The 370Z will remain a two-seater and will continue the 350Z's general shape, but will
get more muscularly-sculpted body panels to give the car a more aggressive look.
Changes begin with the shortened wheelbase and reduced overall length. The wheelbase
could be shrunk by about four inches to just over 100 inches, with length dropping by
some five inches to around 164 or so. Sources indicate the wheelbase was shortened by
removing the strut tower brace that dominated the rear cargo area and by shrinking
room behind the seats
|
|
These dimensions will make the 370Z roughly the same size as a Porsche Cayman
or BMW M Coupe. Styling will be more aggressive, with heavily flared fenders, rocker
panels and new fascia with updated lighting. The cabin will likely feature better
materials and improved ergonomics.
Like you can probably guess from its name, the 370Z will feature the new VQ37VHR
engine from the Infiniti G37 and Skyline coupes, producing over 326 horsepower and
366Nm of torque at 5,200rpm. This is 0.1 liter and two turbochargers down from
the VR-series engine in the Nissan GT-R, but over 300 horsepower is still a very
decent figure. The engine marks the debut of Nissan’s throttle-less VVEL technology.
Some suggestions are expecting that the 370Z will be unveiled at the Paris
Motor Show, home turf to Nissan's sister-company Renault, this coming October,
others may think the LA Auto Show will be the one in November. That's still
months away, and sure we may see couple of more insights on the subject by
the time comes closer ...either cases we would not hold our breath, rather
stay tuned for more information.
