• Multi-cultured, multi-layered, marvellously arty Melbourne.
Melbourne, (capital of Victoria) with a population of more than three million, is Australia's second
largest city. It is regarded as the cultural and fashion capital of Australia and renowned for its
fine restaurants.
It is a true multicultural city with more than one quarter of Melbourne's inhabitants born overseas.
The city is extremely racially tolerant and very easy to work and live in. Visitors enjoy a warm
and friendly reception.
Whereas Sydney is bold and brassy, Melbourne is conservative and refined and has an elegance that
appeals to most visitors
There is much to love about Melbourne. Just ask the locals. This sophisticated world city in the
south-east corner of mainland Australia inspires a deep passion in those lucky enough to live here.
They love its vibrant energy, staggering choice of restaurants, funky boutiques, café-filled laneways,
cool bars, unbeatable galleries, luscious parks and village-like inner suburbs, each with its own
special character.
Melbourne, a relatively modern city which is less than 200 years old, never sits still. New futuristic
designs add to the fascinating mix of architecture and ensure the skyline is constantly changing.
Melbourne is very much about lifestyle. It is no huge surprise to residents that their city has
been named in an international poll as the world's most liveable city.
• So ...after all let us see what Gavin has to say about the foundation of the Victorian
Z Car Club (Viczcar) Australia.
Viczcar formed in early 2004 and was the result of an idea between three Zed enthusiasts in
Melbourne. As a 240z owner myself and having owned a 260z 2+2 and another 240z previously I knew
my way around these cars. All the information I had gained was the result of crawling internet
discussion boards.
What was lacking was a club or support group to help fellow 240z or 260z owners restore their
Zeds and find difficult and hard to replace parts. There was 3 wrecking yards in Victoria dedicated
to the earlier and late Zeds but often parts for the 240z were very hard to find as a growing number
were in collectors hands or lost forever to the crusher.
In general I had always found Zed owners to be a friendly bunch and it was common courtesy to
wave if you saw one on the street. It was a summer night in early 2004 that was going to change
all that. I met a guy named Sulio who owned a very tidy 260z 2 seater, he introduced me to a guy
named Costa who had restored and modified a 240z with a wild L28 under the hood. After a cruise
around town and onto a few freeways, we went to a bar and discussed starting a club in Victoria
Australia to bring together Zed owners.
The idea was set and we started with a very primitive website. Although it was very simple we still
had a few members join and through contacts we knew already we started to gather a bigger fan base.
We are now up to 152 members and growing daily which we think is an excellent number considering how
scarce these cars are these days.
Our club has enjoyed numerous events from simple drive days to show and shine. Earlier this year
we had a Nissan Datsun Nationals where cars from all around the country were on display. We hope
that sometime in the not too distant future we will be able to provide track days and other events
for our members to participate in. For now our club is free of charge and we hope to stay that way
for a long time.
We are always welcome to international visitors and our aim is to expand our contacts so that we
can enjoy the benefits of having contacts in other countries and vice versa. Feel free to drop by
and say hello we really are a friendly bunch.
Regards,
Gavin & The VicZcar Team.
