NISSAN and NISMO
teams in the 2005 Super GT Series! |
Nissan Motor Company & Nissan Motorsports International (NISMO) announced
its participation in the Super GT series for 2005. Four Fairlady Z (350Z) cars will
contest the GT500 category, joined by three privateer-run machines in GT300.

SUPER GT Makes
Historic Start in Okayama |
The first-ever SUPER GT race took place at Okayama International Circuit on Sunday, March 27th
in an historic event that attracted over 59,100 fans on raceday to the track famous for hosting
Japan's Pacific Grand Prix in the mid-nineties.
The inaugural SUPER GT showdown was an event-filled affair with intense on-track action form
the moment the lights went out to the checkered flag two hours later. Carrying on from the
popularity of the JGTC, the maiden SUPER GT event was just that: Super Grand Touring car racing
enjoyed by masses of fans, and boasting the biggest grid in international circuit racing today.

ZENT SUPRA
dominates on Fuji Speedway's re-opening |
Tuesday's crowd of 27,300 to witness the new Super Lap qualifying format was only a
smattering compared to the number of fans who descended on Fuji Speedway on race day
for Round 2 of the 2005 SUPER GT series. With over 52,700 in attendance by lunchtime,
it was proof positive that the wait for the reopened circuit had been eagerly anticipated
by legions of loyal GT race fans.

The fifth visit to Malaysia for the machines of SUPER GT was as exciting as it was hot. Amid tropical
temperatures and suffocating humidity that had hovered over the circuit all weekend, 42 of the most
highly-developed HAKO racing cars on the planet put on a show that kept the Malaysian audience on
their feet, despite the sweltering heat and blazing sunshine.

Event-filled race sees
SUPRAS take top four positions |
Under sunny skies and with temperatures hovering around the 25-degree mark, the 43 SUPER GT
machines took the rolling start at 14:10 in front of 50,300 fans for Round 4 of the SUPER GT
spectacle at Sportsland SUGO.

Honda takes victory
in event-filled race in GT500, and ADVAN Z in GT300
|
After dominating every session throughout Practice and Qualifying, a Honda win was expected
at Twin Ring Motegi in Round 5 of SUPER GT500 over the September 3-4 weekend. Piloting the #100
Raybrig NSX, French driver pair Jeremie Dufour and Sebastien Philippe took a well-deserved
Honda victory at the maker's home track north of Tokyo.
GT300 saw its share of on-track battles, and the victory flag finally gone for the
#46 Dream Cube's ADVAN Z.

Cerumo Supra Repeats
Fuji Win, #3 G'ZOX Hasemi Z finished on fourth place
|
In a repeat of the series' last visit to the track, the #38 Zent Cerumo Supra was victorious
at the legendary circuit located near the base of Mount Fuji. After a strenuous battle with
the pole-sitting #32 EPSON NSX, the car of Toranosuke Takagi and Yuji Tachikawa fought a
battle that went right down to the wire in the 66-lap event.

Honda victory,
second, third, fourth and sixth position went to Z Machines
|
Round 7 of the 2005 AUTOBACS SUPER GT was the scene of a lights-to-flag victory for
the #8 ARTA NSX from Team Honda Racing ahead of a brace of 3 Nissan 350 Z machines,
followed by the sister #18 Takata Dome NSX.

In the Teams' Title, NISMO were once
again victorious
|
Pole-sitting #38 ZENT Cerumo Supra took the laurels in both in the race
and the drivers' title with 67 points. Lyons' run to second place in the race netted the #1 Xanavi
NISMO Z equal third with James Courtney and Takeshi Tsuchiya in the #36 TOM'S entry (on 60 points);
while the #8 ARTA NSX's non point-scoring run to 12th was still enough to secure second in the
drivers' title with 61 points. The #22 Motul Pitwork Z ended the season with 57 points for fourth place.

SUPER GT Winners feted as season
officially comes to a close

The 2005 SUPER GT Awards took place today, December 11th in downtown Tokyo in front of a select group
of race fans and assembled media. Presentations were made to drivers and teams, recognized for their
achievements throughout the 2005 SUPER GT season.
