All-New 2009 Nissan 370Z Coupe Readies For Debut

(This press release was issued by Nissan North America
on 6:00a.m. CST October 29, 2008)

Nissan offers the first look at the upcoming 2009 370Z Coupe, which makes its world debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 19th.

The all-new 2009 Nissan 370Z , the first full redesign of the iconic Nissan Z since its reintroduction as a 2003 model, solidifies the strengths of its predecessor with an unmatched balance of performance, style and value. The all-new Z will go on sale at Nissan dealers in early 2009.

A GT-R V-Spec - or - Keeping GT-R Spirit high

Continue on the foot steps of the famed Nismo built Skyline - R34- GT-R V-Spec, the V-Spec is essentially a road-legal version of a track car, similar to how the race track-bred Porsche 911 GT3 is positioned relative to the 911 Turbo.

Keeping the GT-R spirit high, speculative photos have begun to surface of a mysterious Nissan GT-R that has been caught lapping the famed Nürnburgring at an incredible, if not simply unbelievable, 7:25 per lap, according to the trackside bystanders.

Inheriting the tradition of its predecessors, the new GT-R appears with several features not to be found on the standard model.

The images, which first surfaced on GTR-World, show a significantly modified prototype. Prime differences over the production model include a new bonnet, air intakes, lowered ride height and a modified front bumper design with no central grille strut, presumably in aid of improved engine cooling during testing. Race-spec alloy wheels and tyres as well as a full roll cage, new air scoop in the front spoiler, a race-style refueling port and an air-jack adapter positioned below dec's highlight an upped spec.
The performance figures for the new model have been kept under wraps so far leaving all of us in the media having to rely on pure speculation. Initially a figure of 550hp has been suggested, although an unverified leaked brochure surfaced revealing it could be 512hp and the carbon-fibre body will contribute to a 100kg reduced dry weight.

Further info to surface also reveals the GT-R is actually a loss maker for the Japanese manufacturer and not until they roll out more cars on the same platform (such as Infiniti and/or Skyline GT versions) will the automaker see the balance sheet return to the black.

Judging by the latest details that have recently surfaced we won't have long to wait. According to print magazine Car & Driver a preliminary version of the GT-R V-Spec (or Spec-V) will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in September with sales to commence as soon as December for the Japanese market, we will probably have to wait until close to 2010 before it hits the European and North American markets.

Nissan unveiled details on its upcoming 350Z-replacement - more details

The 370Z will remain a two-seater and will continue the 350Z's general shape, but will get more muscularly-sculpted body panels to give the car a more aggressive look.

Changes begin with the shortened wheelbase and reduced overall length. The wheelbase could be shrunk by about four inches to just over 100 inches, with length dropping by some five inches to around 164 or so. Sources indicate the wheelbase was shortened by removing the strut tower brace that dominated the rear cargo area and by shrinking room behind the seats

These dimensions will make the 370Z roughly the same size as a Porsche Cayman or BMW M Coupe. Styling will be more aggressive, with heavily flared fenders, rocker panels and new fascia with updated lighting. The cabin will likely feature better materials and improved ergonomics.

Like you can probably guess from its name, the 370Z will feature the new VQ37VHR engine from the Infiniti G37 and Skyline coupes, producing over 326 horsepower and 366Nm of torque at 5,200rpm. This is 0.1 liter and two turbochargers down from the VR-series engine in the Nissan GT-R, but over 300 horsepower is still a very decent figure. The engine marks the debut of Nissan’s throttle-less VVEL technology.

Some suggestions are expecting that the 370Z will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, home turf to Nissan's sister-company Renault, this coming October, others may think the LA Auto Show will be the one in November. That's still months away, and sure we may see couple of more insights on the subject by the time comes closer ...either cases we would not hold our breath, rather stay tuned for more information.

First and Second Place for Nissan at SUPER GT Opening Race at Suzuka

March 16, Suzuka Circuit, Mie Prefecture, Japan - The XANAVI NISMO GT-R (#23), starting from the second on the grid and driven by Satoshi Motoyama and Benoit Treluyer, won the first race of the 2008 Super GT series in Japan in front of more than 32,000 spectators. Michael Krumm and Masataka Yanagida brought the MOTUL AUTECH GT-R (#22) home in the 2nd place for a historic debut race weekend for Nissan.

This was the first 1-2 finish for NISMO since last years round three at Fuji Speedway. And it was the first win for a GT-R machine since the CALSONIC SKYLINE (Benoit Treluyer/Yuji Ide) victory at Suzuka in 2003. This means that Treluyer was the winner of both the last race of the Skyline GT-R and the first race of the Nissan GT-R

Spying on new 370Z

It looks like things are going to get a lot curvier. Hood-to-fender dip on the current car remains, while at the front of those fenders appears a set of LED headlights unlike anything else on the road. And in one inset photo -- though we have no idea if it represents anything more substantial than fancy -- a redone front features a smaller center scoop flanked by much more aggressive fender vents.

On the other hand couple fuzzy shots are also indicating minor interior changes too. The three gauges atop the center console look to be placed in much deeper cowls than the current car.

According to reports, the 350Z will turn into the 370Z when Nissan updates the sports car with the 3.7-liter V6 in its recently-revised sibling, the Infiniti and Skyline Coupe's. Whether the Japanese automaker will use this opportunity to facelift the model altogether as anticipated remains to be seen.

Some suggestions are expecting that the 370Z will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, home turf to Nissan's sister-company Renault, this coming October, others may think the LA Auto Show will be the one in November. That's still months away, and sure we may see couple of more insights on the subject by the time comes closer ...either cases we would not hold our breath rather stay tuned for more information.

Waiting for the next generation Z ...

With the current "Zed" getting a bit long in the tooth after five years of diligent service, and the recent speculation surrounding the next iteration, the attached image confirms that the next Z will be keeping the general shape of the outgoing model, but with a more smoothed out appearance.

Naturally, with an appearance upgrade, changes under the hood are all but assured, and the smart money seems to be on the (Ward's Best Selection) 3.7-liter VQ-series V6 that's currently found beneath the bonnet of the new G37 Skyline or perhaps the Nismo RS used 380RS ...

A print-only report just-arrived and declares the revised Nissan 350Z will appear at the Paris Motor Show this fall, be powered by the 3.7-liter engine found in the Infiniti G37 and thus become a 370Z.
This news isn't terribly shocking since the G and the Z share a platform and have historically run the same displacement engine. Such a move is good news for fans of the two-seat, more affordable cousin to the G.

Then again, this looks like a scan from one of the dozens of speculation-happy Japanese magazines that come out every week, so we're not holding our breath.

Frankfurt? Geneva? Paris? Detroit? We'll be waiting, as always.,

The livery design GT-R GT500 Race Car

TOKYO (January 16, 2008) - The new livery resulted from close collaboration between Nissan's design team and NISMO, its motorsports affiliate company, and incorporates feedback from members of the "Club NISMO" fan club.

The signature wide "brush stroke" design motif, synonymous with the current Fairlady Z race car, was carried forward into the new GT-R racing car as Nissan's racing fans worldwide could immediately associate with the design.

The livery design swipes forward from the rear in bold red and black - the red symbolizes the passion for racing, while the black signifies the high performance of the new Nissan GT-R.
